Kinder am Zukunftstag beim kreativen Programmpunkt

THIS IS THE FUTURE

What does it take to enable a greener future? Curiosity, lots of questions, and plenty of fresh ideas! That’s exactly what the eight children, aged ten to 13, brought with them when they got a taste of working life at the Brüning Group during this year’s Future Day. In line with our motto ”Enabling a greener future,” the day became an exciting adventure for the young talents, revolving around energy-producing raw materials, recycling, logistics, creativity, and lots of team spirit.

FROM THEORY TO PRACTICE

Matthias Warnke, our COO of Recycling & Waste, took the children on an exciting journey through the world of the Brüning Group, explaining how our work helps conserve resources, close cycles, and why that is the basis for sustainability. Afterwards, it was the kids’ turn to speak: the introductory round focused on hobbies, career ideas, and what a green company means to them. Sina Skusa and Hendrik Bauer from the project management team then explained the Brüning cycle, with an important takeaway for the young visitors: sustainability is not an abstract concept, but something we live by every day. Things then took a playful and educational turn: the children were able to apply and consolidate their newly acquired knowledge in a rally across the various units.

Everything revolved around exciting questions related to the Brüning Group – and we deliberately sought a connection to everyday life, as there are more touchpoints with our work than one might initially think. For example: What belongs in the blue bin at home? You might know this product from the garden? What are stacked logs in the forest called? And what is spread when it’s getting slippery in winter? The answers weren’t spoon-fed, but rather discovered through hands-on experience and thinking things through. The kids were eager to participate, and it was delightful to see their curiosity.

FUTURE DAY 2025 – ACTIVE AND CREATIVE

This was followed by one of the loudest and most popular items on the agenda: a trip to the walking floor truck. Together with Tobias Böder, head of logistics, they went straight to the vehicle – got in, inspected the buttons and, of course, honked the horn. The excitement was contagious. During the lunch break, there was pizza for everyone. The perfect opportunity to process all the impressions and take a short breather.

In the afternoon, things got creative and personal: while creating wooden clocks and designing their own T-shirts, the children had a chance to express themselves artistically. There was painting, plotting, and lots of laughter. These activities resulted in unique mementos of an eventful day. The feedback session at the end provided a clear mood: “Everyone here is really nice! It was great fun,” sums up Lene. Maren Schumacher from Recruiting and main organiser of the Future Day couldn’t agree more: “We had a great group with us today! The kids were super engaged and full of curiosity – it’s a real pleasure to give them an insight into the world of the Brüning Group. For me, it was a perfect day, and I naturally hope that some of the information about our business will stick. Who knows – maybe we’ll see some of them again for their first internship!” The day ended with plenty of new impressions. The message remains: A greener future begins with people who enable it happen – whether big or small.
